Sonja Dykslag appointed assistant superintendent of People Services

Wolf Creek Public Schools (WCPS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Sonja Dykslag as assistant superintendent of People Services for the school division. 

“Sonja has been an exemplary principal within WCPS, she has served on the Division’s Administration Executive for many years, and she has also served on numerous other divisional committees,” said Tim De Ruyck, WCPS superintendent. “Sonja has been extensively involved with the ATA, along with several other organizations both within and external to Wolf Creek Public Schools. She will be a tremendous addition to the leadership team at Division office.”


Dykslag has been with Wolf Creek for 31 years, as a teacher and administrator. Most recently she has served as principal at École Lacombe Upper Elementary School since 2006. She  facilitated many training opportunities for staff within the Division, and as a result she is well-known to staff throughout Wolf Creek Public Schools.

“I am honored and humbled to move into this new position. École Lacombe Upper Elementary School has been my home for many years and I thank all the staff, students and parents who have supported me,” said Dykslag. “I look forward to the opportunities this new role will bring. Supporting the success of Wolf Creek and its people are extremely important to me and serving them to the best of my abilities is my commitment.”   

Dykslag has a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta, and a Master of Education from the University of Lethbridge. She will commence her role as assistant superintendent of People Services on August 1, 2022. She takes on the role as Corrine Thorsteinson departs Wolf Creek for the position of associate superintendent of Human Resources with Red Deer Public Schools.
