Media Release: New Assistant Principals Appointed to Ponoka Elementary School
Mr. Jay Cottell & Mr. Nathan McEntee have been appointed as the new Assistant Principals for Ponoka Elementary, effective for the 2018/19 School Year. This opening was created as the current Assistant Principal, Rolanda Eadie has decided to pursue other endeavors.
“I am very honored to be joining the team at Ponoka Elementary School! Getting to know the students and their families will be the most exciting part as I become a member of the school community. I am looking forward to being a part of a skilled and dedicated staff and I can’t wait to start the 2018-19 school year as Assistant Principal of Ponoka Elementary School!” said Mr. Cottell.
“I am extremely excited to take on and share the role of Assistant Principal at Ponoka Elementary School. I have spent the majority of my teaching career at Ponoka Elementary School and consider it my second home. I am looking forward to working with the staff, students, and parents in my new role.” Said Mr. McEntee
Jay and Nathan will be sharing the full-time role as Assistant principal at Ponoka Elementary School. Sharing of this role will allow both individuals to bring new ideas and perspectives to the role as Assistant Principals. Jay’s depth of experience in working with teachers to provide interventions and strategies will be a considerable asset in his new position. Jay also has a notable passion in the assistive technology area. Nathan is currently a teacher at Ponoka Elementary School and has also served in the roles of Learning Coach and Technology Coach in WCPS. Nathan has a passion for technology integration, assessment and instruction.

Many are already be familiar with Nathan’s work as a Technology Lead Teacher, Learning Coach, and outstanding Grade 6 Teacher. Jay brings a rich skill set to the role, including several years of coordinating supports across the Division for our youngest learners. Both Jay and Nathan are valuable additions and will surely have an immediate impact in their new roles,” said Tim Bowman, Principal, Ponoka Elementary School.
