Kelsey Graham Nominated for the Edwin Parr Award for Outstanding First Year Teacher

I am absolutely thrilled to be chosen as Wolf Creek's nominee for the Edwin Parr Award. This is an honor that I am so grateful and humbled to be recognized for. It is gratifying to know my administrators and the district have recognized my hard work and passion for teaching.”

This quote is from Ms. Kelsey Graham, Wolf Creek Public School’s 2017 nominee for the Edwin Parr Award for outstanding first year teachers.  “I currently teach a wonderful grade three class at Iron Ridge Elementary Campus in Blackfalds. I feel so fortunate to be working at IREC; the staff, students, and parents have been incredibly welcoming and supportive as I journey through my first year of teaching. The students are what truly make this job so rewarding. They are all such bright and unique young people and it is a privilege to get to know them and help them grow as learners. I sincerely love spending my days laughing and learning alongside them.”

Mrs. Alda Lovell, Director of People Services commented, “Wolf Creek Public Schools is honored to recognize Miss Kelsey Graham as our Wolf Creek Public Schools Edwin Parr nominee. Our nomination is supported by the outstanding skills, knowledge and attitudes that Miss Graham demonstrates with her classroom and students each and every day. Miss Graham exemplifies innovative practice and lifelong learning through her creative approach to establishing an engaging learning community for her students.  Kelsey is eager to share her enjoyment of learning.  She approaches teaching and learning with genuine enthusiasm and clear purpose. She is an enthusiastic, capable educator whose classroom is characterized by hands-on, engaging instruction, projects that encourage students to deepen their understanding, and a learning community where students are comfortable taking risks and seeking assistance. Miss Graham provides her students with an appropriate balance of guidance and support while also developing their independence and self-efficacy.”

Mrs. Maureen Schlemko, Principal of Iron Ridge Elementary School, added, “Miss Graham is truly committed to ensuring that each of her students are successful. Her attention to the learning styles, student choice and hands-on activities has created a safe, caring and purposeful  community of learning.  Miss Graham has naturally developed relationships with her students. She can always be found with a smile on her face, greeting her students at the door.  Students look forward to seeing what Miss Graham has planned for them each day.

The Edwin Parr Award  is annually awarded to one first year teacher in each zone of the Alberta School Boards’ Association (ASBA), who has demonstrated excellence in teaching. Each school division nominates one candidate, and then a committee selects one of the candidates to receive the award for the zone. The Edwin Parr Award recipients are recognized at the ASBA Fall General Meeting.

Iron Ridge Elementary Campus is a Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 3 School located in the town of Blackfalds.
